Just got a 305 Chevy

If you're wanting to go V8, why on earth wouldn't you consider dropping a 302 or 351W in instead? Everything would be bolt-in, and you wouldn't have to go through the hassle of finding ECUs, wiring harnesses etc. Just my $0.02.
I'd take either over a 305 any day.

This is just a heads up from a chevy guy who builds 2-3 small blocks a year...
Yes as everyone is going on about, building a 305 is 90% of the time a waste. However if you get one for almost free and it needs little machining and you're just putting it into an F150 it will be good on gas? Thats really it tho. It wont even have enough torque to tow much(250-300ft-lbs and 200hp with stock heads).
Honestly if it needs anymore more than new rings/bearings and a final hone you're 100% better off getting a 350. Your best bet is to goto machine shops first to see if they have any good cores. Otherwise you can end up spending +$1000 on machining the block and assembly. The costs are exactly the same for any small block. There are definately more parts for 350's floating around as well. I would have given you my old 305 for free out of my '91 Camaro.
Also if you dont even know if this 305 needs rings you have no clue whether or not the block is good(cracked, core shifted etc...). For the price of having it magnafluxed you're much better gambling with the 350 first. Its MINIMUM 50lb-ft more torque you'll gain.
Dont worry about the snow. It melts. The entire motor will need to be hot tanked and cleaned anyway.
