I don't think its fair that they'll pay for everything else but not the laser eye surgery and I don't understand why you absolutely need perfect vision But the guy I work with got hired on down in California, so he saved himself $3,000 for now til he comes back up here to go for the cop thing again. He had interviews with several different precincts including OPP's but again the eye surgery.
I have no issues with having to pay for my own surgery and paying the man for the job at the same time. Some of these people are just as picky as a I am with car audio about people eyes. I just need to find a dude that will swap for a stereo system.
Lots of experience. Have had each eye done 5 times now because of the diabetes.
For me , there is no cost as there is an underlying medical reason.
Ask your doctor if there is a plan that you could atleast have it covered or done at a reduced cost.
The laser work I get done isnt to correct vision. It is used to keep they eye troubles I have from progressing.
Kamloops has a great eye laser Doctor. Dr Hopp

I had mine done at LASIK MD. I don't know if they have any in BC or not, but they were good. Total cost was 2500 bux, my vision is quite good. Haven't had it checked in a few months but it was 20/20+ before.
My right eye does get dry if I don't sleep enough, and I had halos for about a month, but those are all gone now.
Overall, it was one of the best things I've done. I got it done because I want to be a Cop, but as it turns out, that is the least rewarding thing.
Good luck,
Craig G

To me it definitely makes sense that police officers can't wear glasses/contacts. What would happen if you're chasing a guy or something and your glasses fall off? For the average person it's not that big a deal but a cop not being able to see could cost lives.

Contacts as well are a big no way due to the nature of the items the officer carries and may have to use. IE: pepper spray, tear gas etc. I can only imagine how a contact lens would trap any pepper spray that found it's way into the officers eyes. Ouch, makes me shiver just thinking about it.
I have been tear gassed inadvertently 3 times, wrong place and wrong time and it is darn nasty stuff.
