Letter to 20/20
So I watched this clip on ABC's 20/20 tonight and once again, the car audio world takes a hit...
Here's the online article...read both pages...

And here is the letter I wrote in response...
"Dear 20/20
My name is Aaron Bird, founder of Team 8 Track dB Drag Racing Team.I write you representing some 100,000 car audio enthusiasts known as dB Drag Racers, or SPLer's(SPL=Sound Pressure Level).
I am somewhat upset by your story on on Aug.12/05 in regards to the "Boom Car Craze",as you have choosen to call them.
In your peice you made mention of all the problems and annoying things caused by these sound systems, but made no mention what so ever of the people, which I represent, who do car audio as very serious hobby and do it under the strictest of rules and regulations set out by numerous sactioning bodies world wide.Rules set out to make the "art" of car audio a safe, equal, and enjoyable experience for both participant and spectator.
You made mention of vehicles being capable of doing 170+ decibels, but failed to mention that most vehicles capable of doing such numbers are built soley for the purpose of competition and are in most case not even road worthy. They are merely a subwoofer enclosure on wheels.
I do agree that there are a number of people, of all ages, out on the streets with the sole intention of disturbing the peice. This is something that we in the dB Drag, Sound Quality competition community and car audio industry as a whole frown upon greatly.A great sound system can be enjoyed at loud levels if a person so wishes, but please do have respect for others around you.
I encourage you and your writers do more research on your topics and find the positive points of hobbies enjoyed by so many. Some enjoyed at the expense of others comfort.Others enjoy in a controlled enviroment, with a set rulebook in place and for the thrill of competition.
Please visit these links to learn more about dB Drag and SPL competions and you'll find that we are not all trouble makers.

Thank you for your time."
