Looking to buy a TV.
Even tho you said you dont have any HDTV channels its still a good thing to have when HDTV finally kicks it out in high gear. Or if you ever decide to subscribe with satelite and want that extra HDTV. Better to have it and be prepared than to have to go b ack and upgrade when you may not have the extra cash if they decide to bump up prices when it hits popularity high.
Sometimes back there was the Samsung...**** can't member the name it's there "higher" end stuff tantrus or trantric something like that, I was surprised in the quality compared to the toshiba right besides it I think it had .26 dot pitch all the component connection etc etc. If I had bought at that time I would have went with the Samsung I think it was around thd 2900$ mark then came with 3 year warranty vs toshiba/rca 1 year warranties.

I would have preferd a DLP tv but it wasnt in the budget. If you want an entry level big screen this is the one to get.

The TV I Want!!!!!!!
The technology is the same as what is used in the projectors in current day movie theaters

DLP = Digital Light Processing
Basiclly the digital signal from your DVD player (for example) is kept in the digital domain (no conversions) until it hits the screen.
Other TV processing systems have at least one digital-analog conversion.
The benifits include lower size and weight, as well as great picture quailty.
Down side...cost.
For your price range and size preference stick with a convetional RPTV. Look at Toshiba, Hitachi and Panasonic for the best bang/buck.Just make sure that you get a TV that has HDMI and/or DVI inputs, and is HD ready (not compatable).

If I were buying right now I would be buying rear projection. When it wears out the other technologies will have resolved their issues and either be gone or reliable and affordable.
For rear projo IMO it's gotta be a Hitachi or a Toshiba Cinema Series.
