i have an 1988 honda civic with a 1.5L stock motor and 5 speed tranny. God knows the real mileage on it. So anyways, Im thinking of putting in a new motor (and maybe new tranny)

can any of u guys tell me what motor should i go for? Im aiming for just another 1.5L, this thing is not for racing or anything. But i heard that B16 is not much more money???

So what are my options and about how much would a new engine cost? How about a new tranny? Remeber im not tryint to race, i just need a reliable vehicle to drive around.

If anyone in the GTA can help me out feel free to PM me.

Unless the rest of the car is really nice, Id just drive it till something breaks before I replaced the engine with something similar... if it aint broke dont fix it...

If the engine really is on the verge of dying, then maybe...

I think you are right that the B16 isnt going to cost much more to buy from a wrecking yard... and Ive even seen prelude engines put into those cars and they were pretty damn fast...

Are you attempting the engine/tranny swap yourself ? Its not really THAT hard to work on those old hondas, but seriously... it sounds like you will be paying a garadge to do the work...

I think by the time you are done, you could have sold the thing and just bought a better car....

b16's can be had for cheap . they are the engines that are in the canadian SI's or american ex's. they have 125ish hp so there not slow but not fast.

you can probobly get an H22a for a decent price too. they are quite a bit faster. if my memory serves me right they are teh type R engine. from accords and preludes.. they have 190-200 hp.

hope that helps a bit

^ keep your eyes open in the wrecking yards....BTW dont bother with the H22A....parts for it are VERY expensive compared to the B16.....not to mention....try finding a wrecked Prelude....besides the B16 is a pretty solid foundation for making some power. Not ignorant ammounts like upwards of 700Hp, but decent power....you could likely get 400hp out of it without building up the bottom end.
