Hey guys for any out there who trail ride and , anyone use the Rhyno Lite rims? I just picked up a back rim cause i am a heavier guy 240lbs and keep bending rims left and right so I finally broke down and bought whole new back rim/cassette/chain all the goodies... Just curious as to your view on the Sun Rims/Rhyno Lite rims...

Mountains, in TO....hahaha (sorry Doug).....you must have to drive for almost a year to get somewhere worth biking. Yet I look outside at the snowchickens flying over yet again, the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other less than 5 minutes away. Pack up that bike and head west Doug. I have not bent a rim yet either, at 220lbs I am not a small guy either.

ahha well not bending rims, but they don't take much to go outta true....then again there just cheapies that came with the bike...So I am hoping this new rim will be stronger... and no T.O here.. London lol... soo yeah not much here either or least that I have found for trails.. mostly do the lake... but yeah most just street riding but jumping off stairs and crap.... last stupid thing to happen was the rear derailler got suck in the spokes and damn did that make a mess lol...

Btw London does have a mountain haha Bohler or something... pretty tiny more like a mole hill lol

Rims

I think my Rocky Thin Air came with Sun rims, I'll be looking to replace the rims on my Bianchi Brava pretty soon, I think the inner cones have dried out, and going off sidewalks didn't help those thin rims on the Bianchi.

I've worked at a bike shop for three years now and rhyno lite rim's are probably the best bang for your buck rim out there. They're strong for what they're worth and still resonably light. The key to keeping them strong will be a good wheel builder, and then checking the spoke tension periodically. If you continue to have issues with bent rims i'd suggest something made by mavic as in my experience they're the best built rims on the market. And also, disc or rim brakes?

I am running a V brake setup on my bike.. However my bike does have the option avail for Disc.. but the new rim I bought does not.... I'd like to goto Disc on the back but couple shops around here basically said the same thing it's "fancy" but the V brake works just as good.....however u bend a rim no worry about break rub unless u really mess up the hub... I just picked up Kenda Kenetix Back tire 26x2.35 with an oversized tube for it.. whata pain in the *** that was to put on the rim.. such a tight fit but look soo much more solid then before just can't wait to ride... my front end looks dumb now.. cheapo fromt rim with stock front tire 26x2.10 looks so small now.... My last upgrades to do are Rhyno Lite Front RIm... Back suspension and depending how my current front Marozochi turns out... buddy cracked the stanction tube mount... and some how striped the brake assembly mount... so couple repairs there yet.

If you've got other upgrades and repairs for the moment then i'd say leave disks for later, but if you do have some cash laying around i'd reccomend shimano deore hydraulic disks. I was on the v brake bandwagon until i got my latest race bike last summer which has avid juicy five disks, i must say i won't be going back to V's. The modulation and power of disks just isn't comparable to V's. But as far as the rim goes it sounds like it should be great for the time being, and if you're buying another rhyno lite i'd suggest springing for the welded and machined version. Finally for a 2.35 tire and oversize tube isn't really nessecary unless you're having issuses with flats, the rotational weight savings of a normal tube usually outweigh the extra size.

up here in North Bay, we basically all ride beefy DH and freeride bikes.. my current ride is a 2004 Banshee Scratch.. im running a FUNN rear wheel and an Intense Mag 30 up front.. 8 inch hayes purples for brakes...
btw.. im running 24X2.5 on the front and 24X2.35 inch out back.. talk about beefy

ive had personal experience with rhyno lites and they are great rims for the cost.. i used to run them on my trials bike... nice and lite but very strong.... if you hadent already purchased the wheel, id have sugested a MAG 30... they are beefy as hell and weigh very little... a little more pricey than the rhyno tho...

Yeah I have other stuff to do, get front suspsension rebuilt/Front Rim/Tire/tube... I went with oversized just because I have had flats 2 different times now and was pissing me off thank god everytime we where just exiting the trails... I may not have the issue anymore sine I bought new rubbers.. I went with the Kenda Kenetics... the disc I am going to wait till down the road the guy at the local bike shop said other them cosmetic he said you would get the same quality out of a v-brake now I am no where near pro to agree or disagree all I know is how I have my v-brake setup now it stops me pretty quick... Now in regards to a front rim would I be safe to stick with a Rhyno Lite, or maybe stick wit it but goto the welded version as stated below since it would technically be takin more head on blows with landings/holes etc etc.? since we have a couple bike guys on here... anyone gotta good deal on a rear shock? looking for 6.5" Eye to Eye... I believe mine is 1.5" stroke if I got that right... I will post a pic later on..

Thanks guys!!
