My most half-arsed repair ever!
Today I found out that I had a leak in my coolant system... well ok, I found out sunday afternoon, but being a holiday weekend, and since it was a small leak, I didn't bother to fix it then.
Anyways, the leak was just a small crack in a steel pipe that goes across the front of the engine right over the exhaust manifold, where there is a piece welded to the pipe so it can be bolted to the engine with the alternator mount.
Long story short, I tried to fix it temporarily yesterday with a piece of hose and 3 gear clamps... no such luck however, since the gear clamps made the crack worse, and I had coolant spraying onto my nice hot manifold... still not too bad a leak, but it looked terrible with steam coming out from under my hood at every intersection.
on the the half arsed repair, now that you know the rest of the story.
on the way home, I stopped for gas, and decided to see what was going on under the hood, and found out that the leak was even worse, so I decided to take decisive action... since the pipe was just the intake for the heater core, I decided that disconecting the heater was my best bet, so I pulled (and cut) the hoses off and then tried to find something to plug the hoses with... and of course I could find NOTHING. Nothing except 2 marrettes, so, desperation being the mother of macgyverness, I shoved the marrettes into the hoses, tightened the gear clamps, and off I drove.
so my car is running on the grace of God, 2 marrettes, and 2 gear clamps.
