if you can find a old 2500+ Barton you can overclock it to 3200+ easily for half the money, mine is overclocked to 3200+ with a coolermaster aero 7+ I can go alot fast with the setup I have but I left it like this for now. for the first month or so I was running @ what would have been 3800+ standards for AMD about 2.6ghz

I have my Barton 2500+ clocked to 3000+ with stock cooling and arctic silver three paste. Stable as a rock and fast as hell.

From the PC description given, it doesn't look like dodgeram wants to bother with overclocking his PC. Hey, I could be wrong, but there's not much cost cutting options here

The Asus P4C800E I would have taken for myself.

With the drive choice, I think it would be good to start smaller (or slower) if it eats into your pocketbook that much.

Overclocking, although fun, does build excessive heat and causes electromigration and eventual damage to the CPU's transistors. It's like running a 4 ohm stable amp at 3 ohms, haha. All depends I guess. With the right cooling, you can make it live.

well the reason for the 3 drives is this

one raptor for my main system drive, holds the OS and all programs/games ect and is the main drive for video editing ( as I understand a fast drive makes for faster video editing and fast load times on games ect)

the second raptor for pvr duties should give me about 20hours of record time on high quality(everthing I read tells me I want the fastest drive possible for high quality video recording with no frame dropout)

the 120 gig is for mass storage and system back up, it'll hold all the video files I want to keep (I like keeping music videos), my mp3's and I'll do a system backup on there too

well as for the amd I have no experience with em and probaly have seen too much marketing so I believe the p4 is better ...... I'll have to do some reasearch on that

I want to build a machine that I will keep for a long time with no need for upgrades so I figured go all out the first time

as for the desktop case I'm gonna have this in my living room in the stereo stand, I kind of want it to blend in

here's another case I found

it looks a bit better
IMO it would be smarter (and possibly cheaper) to just go get one BIG hard drive.. then partition it to suite your needs.. </font>
Till somethin happens to it, like a roommate or someone or whatever fries it lol Happened to a friend of mine he couldn't get anything off the HD it was fried he had a lot of crap on it too lol Partioning is great but I'd prefer two separate hard drives and partion them, externals are fun
