oem sound article

A long read but good. I like this part "It simply was proof that you could put a gold doorknob on an outhouse and some people would believe it was a mansion -- especially automotive journalists."

You guys totally missed the point of Dereks article.
The bottom line is that the school has adopted the 'Because stock sucks' attitude and is going to run with that.
The driving force behind it is to help you guys, the car audio enthusiasts. Derek does everything he can to support the industry. Giving manufacturers a hard time about integrating nav and hvac controls in their audio systems is just the first step towards trying to help preserve what little industry there is left.
Funny, Derek has received more positive feedback from that story than any other he's done in the past.

I have to agree... year after year the automakers make it harder and hard for the aftermarket and their own clients. Derek had a great point -- if you have to replace an OEM deck that is integrated with the rest of the controls - the cost is enormous. It is time the automakers stopped ripping us off and started making cars affordable to repair and, while I'm at it - wtf do you have to buy $6k worth the options to get ABS on half the cars?

Oh so his "editorial" is really an advertisement? gotcha.
The reason it is a waste of space, IMO, is it states the obvious. Aside from maybe informing the masses of certain cars with goofed headunits it really states little more than "a banana is yellow"
Maybe instead of the aftermarket ramming heads with how to replace the factory junk they should be looking at how to augment or enhance it? Where are all the line level changer controllers that used to be available 10 years ago? Talk about an EXCELLENT option for today's cars. How many are available today. Oh that's right: zero. lame.
Now I am sure Derek Lee is sure he has some sort of positive impact but if he has been bugging the manufacturers about NOT putting that crap into their decks for the last 10 years.....they're not listening
ABS? bah!

^ Well although that was another excellent example of writing for a purpose my issue here was that this article just reads like pages of aimless whining rather than insightful solution.
In fact, I don't recall any sort of wisdom on how to deal with any of the cars listed should some poor bugger see his on that list. I guess you have to attend his school to get that kind of information. perfect.

I love mobile dynamics grads -- although they teach good fundamentals to students, the kids always come out thinking they are "master installers". I have to admit... one of my favorite "funnies" of all time was having a bay manager from FS tell me how he "worked" on DRED -- all he did was take equipment out. That would be like me saying I've designed amps with Bob Carver because I talked to him once on the phone about the Theatre Grand pre-amp.
