Hmmm so as it turns out i'm getting a new tv, and am being forced to reorganize my room to fit everything. The only unaccounted pieces left over are the paradigm pw-2200 sub and the bar fridge.

What i'm wondering is whether i can put a towel/cloth of some sort on top of my subwoofer and then put the pc on top of that. I've currenlty got a fan resting there, and ti doesn't seem to really rattle around or move much. Only thing thats ever seemed to move is a piece of paper i had on there. Is this just a silly idea? Would it rattle the computer apart? Would it be any worse than the computer being a couple feet away from the sub?

Hmm now the more i think about it, i'm also wonder as to whether that speaker might be magnetically shielded or not, specs don't say anything. That might also cause issues.

most powered subs aren't magnetically shielded. Magnets don't go very well with hard-drives. Also, the vibrations will at best not be very good for your computer.

Agreed, Magnetic fields and Hard drives is like water and electricity, a fatal attraction.

I have my Tangband sub sitting below my desk about three feet from the monitor and 4 feet from the PC. No issues. I get interference with the home receiver being next to the monitor though, hehe.

I'd initially say setting a computer on a sub would be a bad thing, however try it with your monitor on, if you're color screws up when you start getting closer, this would be a sign not to do it...if it doesn't I'd say you're pretty much good to go. I don't really know tho, I'm just guessing.

ineresting theory with the monitor.

As it is, my pc sits about 2" from my towers...and i've never had any problem there...although they're supposedly shielded. I may try that monitor idea - strangely good. But hey what do i know. If i can't put the sub in the corner...hmm i'm not sure where the sub wil goo. Could always put hte pc on my desk i guess, but i don't have much room with my tow monitors as it is.

Thanks for the theories and ideas...might try em out with my crappy monitor.

Ok, I don't mean to be a jerk here, but all the people saying the sub will mess up your HD are completely wrong.

A magnet like that would ruin a floppy disk or some other flimsy media like that, but would never ruin your HD.

The sort of magnetic forces that are required to destroy a HD are insane.

We're talking those magnets that are used in wrecking yards to haul cars around type of insane.

It's a very common misconception but also very wrong.

(if you want I can go in to a detailed scientific reason as to why, but I'd rather not have to go back through my HW text books to find it!)

Ok the hard drive uses a magnet to put data on the disk, so if you get sub near by and powerful enough you won't have your data left on you hard drive to care. Oh and magnets also kill monitors. I just had to fix my sisters monitor....aka replace it because she left some dead hard drives in the desk under neither the monitor

I agree to both jordy and swanton. I agree a magnet won't destroy a harddrive so to speak. But i also know it's not gonna help your data as i had a customer who kept having issues with corrupt data, no matter what harddrive or how many times he loaded windows...turned out to be magnetic. I think it ended up being something crazy like an elevator shaft being opposite the wall his pc was at (or something kinda ridiculous like that).

I'll test it out with the monitor though...see how extreme it is....
