I need as much feed back on this as possible. In particular from GM mechanics and from pro installers...Please.

On Sunday June 13th 2004 I did an install of one JVC cd player in a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire using the appropriate harrness allowing the factory deck to be moved to the trunk as per requirements.I used all need connectors, wire, etc needed to do the job.
I discovered that I needed to find a "Key on Assec."power to turn the deck on with.I went on a 2 hour search under the dash and of numerous wiring diagrams.I found nothing I thought suitable to "tap" into.
I phone 2 Future Shop install bays for some advise. The first one told just try to find one off the fuseblock,I asked if there is one in particular. He said it doesn't matter as long as its power on/key on and power off/keyoff.I then phoned a second Future Shop and asked the same question. This time I was told that there are two wires coming off the ignition switch that could be used, one big brown wire, one big pink wire.He recommended using the brown wire.He told me where it ran and where it could be tapped.
I looked under the dash and found the wire exactly where he said it would be.I tested it and it was god for key on only power.
I then cut the wire, used a yellow crimp connectorto splice everything together.I tested everything and had the lady come and look. She was said clearly she was satisgied with everything.I put everything in place.Cleaned up and gave her back her keys.
I did this at no charge other than a couple connectors she needed.Grand total $20.00 cash.
On the evening of Monday June 14 I recieve a message on my answering machine"My front park lamps dont work anymore"So next day I went back to the wiring diagrams and found the wire I tapped into.It leads to a fuse box(location has not yet been verified). On Weds. at work I approached her and told her I saw no real reason why the front lights only would not work, but I would be happy to look into it further for her. Before I knew what was happening, she had another coworker look into.He is apparently a licsense mechanic(and also a Mr.Know it all). After spending numeroud hours on company time looking though this and that,He comes to me with a fuse wrapped in tin foil."Did you do that?""NO!!OF COURSE NOT" I answered.Following this,he proceeded to tell numerous people(staff, mechanics, visitors, etc)that I had put tin foil on this fuse and had caused the body control module to fail. After sometime everyone went quite about the matter and told me nothing.
Today towards the end of the shift, she comes to me and says she had one of account mechanic customers look at the car.Apparently my cutting into that brown wire somehow caused the body control module to short or fail or something. She looks me point blank in the eye and says "I'M NOT PAYING FOR IT!!"
I thought about it for a bit and asked her some questions.
This car had 3 service lights on at all times BEFORE I touched the car.ABS,Traction control, and check/service(picture of a little wrench on the left side of insturment cluster).
She says they are all interconnected. The LF abs sensor is hooped, which in turn causes the traction control to fail which then causes the service light to come on.
Half heartedly I accepted this answer and agreed to pay her the $100 for the new BCM.
I also told her that the only reason I was even doing it was to end the BS and get on with life.I also told her that IF and only IF I truly did goof up,I was sorry.
I need your thoughts, opinions and input on this people. If I get enough backing,I may only give her half...if that...
Please reply and thank you.

Serious replys only please.

Second of all, for the 12V switched accessory you just grab it the windshield fuse in the fuse box. Very simple.
Windsheild fuse?

And in your thoughts,do you think I am to blame? If so,why? and if not why?

Just looking for some answers besides "YOU ****ED UP!!"

i just installed a new alpine deck into my g/f's car about a week ago, a 2000 sunfire gt, had that same stupid harness, i used a wire from the fuse box, and did end up with problems, we sometimes smell burnt rubber in it, i have took the deck out numerous times checked the connections, all OK, but it bugs me it could be somethin i tapped into by the fuse box(further investigation is underway), just wanted to let u know your kinda not alone in this

I went to the fuse block also. Never a problem and super easy to get to.

I did it on my own time.I told her some year ago I would do it and well, she didnt have the decentcy to offer something for my time and efforts.

Now,does anyone here think that what I did caused the problem?

If so,can you please explain clearly how I goofed up.

I keep running it over in my mind, and I still come back to it not being something I did.If I can find enough proof and backing on this, yeah I'm going to tell her to get bent.

I still have yet to find out where thry found this fuse with tin foil on it...I almost feel like I'm being framed...

Thanks for all the replies.
