So what do you use in your car/truck?

Even though my car is designed or regular, it seems to run better on premium, so 91 octane it gets Plus I get 3x the points for free carwashes at esso, or extra air miles from shell.

You may get worse mileage and lower performance on high octane gas if you have a lower compression engine.

Reason is because all the octane does is lower the volatility of the gas. The gas becomes more volatile with higher compression, meaning it can pre-ignite simply under compression before spark. Therefore we have detonation/pinging happening and the engine isn't happening.

So let's dispel one myth: High octane gas doesn't make for better performance.

...in most engines that don't need a high octane fuel.
