Re threading a bolt

its a hawker 2150 battery, the terminal posts are basically threded bolts that stick out of the battery. cant replace that.

Oh. ok. With that what I would so is get a 'die' (the Tap threads a hole, the Die threads the bolt) and cut new threads on the posts. Then get the appropriate nuts for the new threads. The posts/nuts will be a size smaller than before but should still be perfectly servicable.

what Dukk said... and if possible use a nut that is a softer metal than the post so this wont happen again

Batt terminals are pretty soft already, might be hard to find a nut that's softer than them...especially if yer buying them at CT or a hardware store.
