Err... how will a full format remove anything that a quick format wouldn't?

I just reformatted mine last Monday and I backed up everything important onto dvds so no loss.

This time around, I have stopped using Internet Explorer and using Mozilla Firefox and I barely have had any spyware problems to report.

Hrm.. I don't mean any offence, but you must not have done it properly.

Oh... and **** can still be recovered from a full format

I've got a special tool at work that completely over writes everything.

All that formatting does is reset all the sectors to say that they are writable/usable again. The data is still there, just waiting to be written over.

The tool I have actually goes sector by sector and re-writes them with 1's or 0's. (depending on the level of wipe you choose) .. it's pretty cool

don't back up anything that might contain any spyware though...cause then the whole process will start all over again once you reinstall it. but if it has spyware on it, chances are you won't be backing it up because you got it off the net and could get it again if you really wanted.

i also reccommend a good firewall. it will improve your internet connection speed a lot.

Nah.. we just use it for when we're done with a system and getting rid of it.

We need to make sure that no one can get tax payer info off of the HD's.

Adware will never get rid of everything. Stuff gets buried so deep in your registry sometimes that reformatting is the only way. It's pretty easy to do if you have restore discs.
