My car came with those white "tribal?" decals on the side. I'd like to take them off since I find them tacky. What's the best way of doing that without damaging the paint. I was going to try a hairgun and heat them up and gently peel them off, but is there an easier way?

 

i think heating them is the best way.

i also think that dealerships/body shops have a special heating gun to remove them. could be wrong on that though.

I would be a little worried that the paint has faded and you would always see the shape of the decals anyway...It might just look better to leave them on

 

The car was repainted in April of 2004 I think, so hopefully it hasn't faded too much. The paint quality is iffy at best. The previous owner used Aircraft paint and it never did set right.

 

peel it off and use 'goo gone' the stuff works well.

 

yeah, just be careful when you peel off and there shouldn't be too much of a problem...or you chould just wait till it get really cold again and then just chip if off....hehehe

i like the MKII!!! fine choice of an auto! almost bought one exactly like it (same color too) for my first car (minus the decals)...but i held out for a MK3 golf...

 

If the paint job was crap, make sure you use a heat source on it and go slow, you don't want to peel the paint off too...........

 

Sorry I know its a bit off-subject, but I recently removed the old-crusted and damaged JEEP and GRAND CHEROKEE logos off my Jeep and put brand new logos on. I took the old ones off with my wifes hair-dryer, some fishing line (to slide underneath to remove the logo when the glue was hot enough) and some goo-gone to remove the excess (previously mentioned in another post - good choice). Worked like a charm!!!
