Road Trip (BC)
Taking a road trip out to Bamfield on October 21st ... spending the night of the 21st in Port Alberni (and the other 3 in Bamfield) ... anyone in/near Port Alberni ? Just wondering and maybe I'd luck out in meeting someone.

Off the original topic but its BC related:
Bidnyk,
your profile says you are from Kelowna
How is everything going there now after the fire? Did it affect you in anyway? I haven't heard anything on the news about it for a while so I am curious as to how the relief efforts are coming.

Was just in Kelowna yesterday for a funeral. No one seemed too concerned over the fire.
The big concern seems to be rebuilding the trestles instead of the floating bridge.
One of my 4x4 sites had fly over pics of the fire area on Okanogan Mountain and there is a lot of devastation. But there is already little plants coming back, animals have been spotted running around.
Houses are getting rebuilt at a real decent pace. Lots of construction work for someone that is experienced.
The roadblocks are down and a local Kelowna 4x4 club is going to make a run up Chute Lake so we can survey some of the damage and possibly contribute some clean up.
The relief fund for the Red Cross is damn near 2.5 mill and is doing ral well.
The fire over in Barriere was smaller but more devastating to the residents. Not as much relief has been going to them and the biggest employer is dragging its heels trying to get the government to help it re-build.
I came back from Prince George a week or so after the Barrier fire and stopped to see some old friends. I couldn`t believe how bad the area is.
Hopefully the government will come up with something to rebuild the communities involved in the fires this year.
