the owner are the ones that agreed to pay the large salaries in the first place, if better judgement had been used in the first place we wouldnt be here. the owners were still signing player last year to huge contracts they had no plan to honour.. get rid of florida, carolina, nashville and the sunbelt teams that arent and never will be competitive for any legnth of time, there is always room for a flash in thge pan like carolina, and make the existing teams better and not wo watered down with junior b talent. its sad that we may never again get to see, chelios, yzerman, shanahan and the older veterans ever play again, its a shame that thier careers will end in such an acrimoniuos way. i am sad that there isnt any nhl, but i blame both owners, they got themselves where they are and when the decided they didnt like it they tried to change the rules and break the union, i think we will be watching junior for a awfully long time

The nice thing about being the owner is that you can change your mistakes. I mean look at it this way, if you own a business and costs are getting too high, you find ways to scale them back. That is what owners are doing. As it sits over 75% of revenues are going to salaries, name one other industry like that. I have no sympathy for the players who are out there driving around and killing people in their Ferrari's. Making statements that they can't even feed their dogs on 2 million a year. They can all go over to Europe for all I care.

The players took their salaries for granted. Once they got X millions, they expected to have that forever, thats not the way the system works. If you don't like what you are being payed, don't play, it saves the team money, and it weeds out the ones who are they because they want money, not because they love the game. Bettmen waited a few extra days before closing the season, it was suppost to have been anoucnced last friday but he held out, which means there was a general feeling from the owners, that they wanted their season to be on. The players chose not to accept the guidlines and that will be their problem in the long run. These guys WERE making millions and were probably convinced that they would be for the next few years, so they had lifesyles that included fancy cars and big houses, generally lots of spending. Most of these guys will soon run out of cash because they can't cut back their personal budgets and will get screwed because they have no other skills to fall back on. There are some that do, there are some that will go to europe, but the majoirity of players will go broke quickly. These are the players that will start to accept the cap and as more and more of them fall into the unemployed, broke category, there will be much more support for the cap and the owners. The owners will be the real winners here, it isnt costing them very much to have the teams and not pay them. Sure they are losing money for obvious reasons, but nothing unreasonable for their situation. As soon as the seasons starts again, the arenas will be packed and the owners will make up for it all through the lower salaries and the higher turn outs. The players will have to come to their terms, they do not have a choice.

Personally I hope the NHL folds and the Junior leagues take over. It will take a few years and the talent will really begin to increase. Within about 5-10 years it will be to that of the NHL providing there are no age limits [img]smile.gif[/img]
