Lot's of factors involved there....

1- how much do you love your ride?
2- are you mechanically inclined, can you fix it yourself?
3- what shape is it in, body wise?
4- if most or all repairs/maintenance you cannot perform, then does the cost exceed a serious down payment on something newer, in better shape?
5- is your ride starting to 2-bit you to death?
6- is it totally payed for, or, if you are making payments, maybe something newer, still on warranty, will cost you less each month in payment and repairs.

These are just generic points, if you could be more specific, the list could be fine tuned.

Hope these points help.

At this point you've done so much work I'd keep it for at least a season or two.

Have you even looked at any reliability ratings in the last 20 years? Domestics have mostly caught up, and in many cases exceeded import quality. The fact that parts are cheaper and that they are generally easier to work on doesn't hurt either.

Ratings shmatings..... I work at a Toyota dealer right across from a GM dealer and I have to say that gm gets about 20 tow ins to 1 of ours. And you say cheaper parts, nadda. I'm working on a 2001 gm pu with a 6.0 litre and 1 head gasket for this beast costs almost $200. I could almost buy a complete gasket set for a tacoma for that amount. I own an 89 camry V6 with the original alternator (1 brush set) and 385,000 km for example. I used to own an 89 full size Jimmy with a 5.7 and I replaced 2 in the 2 years I owned it plus it was burning oil so bad I got rid of it at 228,000 km.

Imports rule!!
