I say **** it. the NHL should have to put up with the fact they ruined a 112 year tradition because of their own greed. the whole league should be dismantled, and the cup should stay in the hall forever.

The spirit of the cup was to give it to the best team at the time. Well, without the NHL the cup should go to the best team that exists that year!
If that is so...then why not? Stick the NHL's nose in it. You wanna wawa over the multimillion dollar business that is the NHL and not play? Screw you the Stanely Cup lives on and is presented to the best team playing this year.

How you figure that out is another can of worms.

I agree leave it in the hall of fame. And the cup was created by Lord Stanley for the NHL if I am not mistaken. Who here has actually been to the hall of fame and listened to the history they give you on it when your in the room and all over in different places.

"The Stanley Cup, the oldest trophy competed for by professional athletes in North America, was donated by Frederick Arthur, Lord Stanley of Preston and son of the Earl of Derby, in 1893. Lord Stanley purchased the trophy for 10 guineas ($50 at that time) for presentation to the amateur hockey champions of Canada. Since 1910, when the National Hockey Association took possession of the Stanley Cup, the trophy has been the symbol of professional hockey supremacy. It has been competed for only by NHL teams since 1926 and has been under the exclusive control of the NHL since 1946."

The Stanley to me was the symbolistic icon of hockey for Canada, and for much of the world. The Lockout really tarnished the image of ol Stanley.
