terrible luck with WoofersEtc, any Cdn AudioControl Dealers?!?
Hey all.
Long story short, I bought an Audio Control LC2I unit from WoofersEtc 3 months ago. After the first month, the right channel started shorting out... Pulled it out, and there was a faint smell of burnt electronics. Needless to say, I was disappointed because I knew it was going to be a lengthy process to get another one back.
I sent it back to them, and they told me they tested it, and NOTHING was wrong with it. (I also tested this with a more then qualified installer who did my original stereo install)
So they tell me they will send me another unit, and charge me 15$ because they never found anything wrong. 1 month later I receive the new unit. I go to my car, plug it in, and the right channel is now ****ed up.... I switch around the inputs/outputs/3 hours of troubleshooting to come to another conclusion. THEY SENT ME ANOTHER DUD!!!
Now, I originally went to Future Shop as I was going to buy a RE-Q instead of this Audio Control for the exact reason that I didnt want to monkey around with an electronic component if it failed.
The unit itself is obviously a grey market LC2I. There is NO serial number, and I noticed a nasty scuff on it that likely didnt come from shipping. I dont know what to do about this anymore. Im down about 150$ on the transaction. Audio Controls site DOESNT list any Canadian dealers, and I dont know what to tell Woofers Etc. I dont want another POS unit thats going to fail. I know Audiocontrol makes decent stuff, but who knows what sort of gear I am getting from an e-tailer like WoofersEtc.
I didnt buy from them to cheap out, they were literally the only people who were selling them that I could find who would ship to Canada...
*sigh*
Havent had tunes all summer in my new car/stereo... Sitting with a 150$ paperweight Audio Control LC2I unit..... Any advice/suggestions appreciated....

honestly I would go with the RE-Q, it is a very good unit, and like you said you can get it local (less headaches down the road like you are experiencing now)
Just on a side note, (not questioning your installer by anymeans) but have you checked your wiring? if they checked it and it came out ok, perhaps the problems lies within your vehicle?(sometimes even when switching rca's it still can create a problem as these are meant to take a high level signal in and sometimes a faulty ground or onboard amp can make these finicky)

Thanks DUKK. I made some calls, and there is a local business that is going to hook me up. At the time they didnt have the LC2I, but now they do. I may be out 100$, but this way Ill get some warranty....
Ive double checked my wiring, and have proved it to be a device issue (switched inputs/outputs) and tried a passive converter. The passive played fine..
These LC2I units I received were grey market, they coulda been refurbs or who knows what, but they are junk, and thats not somethinn audiocontrol is known for. At least from what I have heard.
Future Shop can order me in an Re-Q as well. Definately worth considering if this doesnt pan out!
