Thinking of getting a Sony Mini Disc Player..

No, Sharp is still making them. They are much better then the sony's. Sharps don't have the capablity for all this MP3 transferring like the sony's. But I use my Sharp for all Live recordings. And for an Analog source the Sound Quality is much better, not too mention you can record SP (80 min), LP (160), or LP2 (320 min). This is great for recording a band in LP, you don't have to change discs in the middle of the show, and I can't really tell the Sound difference except in my car. But if you use it for MP3's, it's much easier to use an mp3 player.

They're not bad, they work well, typical Sony sound quality. The one at Cdn Tire doesn't have much of a display, not sure if that is important to you at all.
However, getting the software to work is another thing. I have the NZ-505 and the software refuses to work, doesn't recognize the player at all, so I have to use Realplayer + Sony Plugin.
Also, you can't move the songs off of your player to another computer so if you have to reload windows and the software, you can't move the songs off.

Sears has them for $130, and I believe FS and BB does as well.
I bought mine a year or so ago. For the price they're not a bad deal.
Got mine for the gym because it was so much smaller then cd player.
I didn't have any problems with the software.
It is fragile though as I am on my second one but I don't know if the MP3 players are any stronger.
The apple ipod looks nice but it's 3x the price also.
