Totalled...

So my wife was driving over to her parents on Saturday (I was at work). Chayse, our 8 yr old, was not in the truck, he was already at Gramma's. But Piper, my 6 week old daughter, was in the back, properlly restrained in her child seat.
She was on an 80 km/hr (50mph) freeway, braking for a red light, she estimates her speed at a slow crawl... And WHAM a 2000 BMW 328i rear ended her at full speed, lifting our '93 Blazer off the ground and slamming it into the back of a '91 Jeep YJ, driven by an off-duty fireman.
The lady in the Bimmer immediately got out of the car, still on her cell phone, and immediately proclaimed "Oh I'm so sorry, I sneezed!".
Police, ambulance, firetruck, the whole enchilada. Piper is fine, she was checked over in the ambulance and was fine. Reneé was sore, but with all the adreniline, not in pain. Lady in the Bimmer was fine. Dude in the Jeep was fine. Lady in the Bimmer got charged.
The Bimmer was heavily damaged, the Jeep had the spare on the back, which took most of the impact, so his rear door was bowed in and bumper tilted down a bit. The Blazer however, is totalled. Receiver hitch on the back took much of the impact, channeling the impact to the frame instead of the cabin of the truck. Frame bent though, creased in the rear 1/4's, visible frame bending above & behind the wheel, & the rear doors don't open. SQUISH. The front has a perfect mark of the sidewall of the Jeep's spare tire, and the hood is folded a bit, grill is smashed, bumper bent in. Tranny fluid leaking from the tranny, so that means the rear end & driveshaft got pushed in due to the frame bending. Had there not been a receiver hitch on the Blazer, I bet the chick in the Bimmer would not have walked away, assuming she lived at all, and the cabin of the Blazer would/ve taken a lot more damage, possibly hurting Piper.
So Rae & Piper were checked over in the ambulance & I took them home. The Blazer got towed to my shop.
Later last night, around 9:00, Rae was ultra hurting and we went to the hospital. They checked over Piper, "110%". But Rae got strapped to a back board, neck-braced, head taped down, Cat scanned, X-rayed, blue dye spleen test too. Battered & bruised, but not broken. Today she "feels like she got hit by a train", but is doing OK. She's not allowed to breast-feed for 48 hours due to the blue dye, so she's quite distressed and Piper is very bitchy too, having to drink formula from a bottle.
So Monday our insurance company is going to demand a rental car from the Bimmer's insurance company, and get the whole claim thing rolling. Swell.

Hey the bright side may be that you forgot to get a Valentine's Day present because you were busy worrying about her and the accident (just in case you need an excuse)
A woman driver is bad enough but give her a cell phone and it's trouble just waiting.
j/k (awaits Teri to yell a response )

My 2 Cents on that issue...
However GriZZ I'm glad everyone's ok, the lady that hit her sounds like a real retard to come out and state only first off "I sneezed" as her excuse. First response would be "are you ok!?" I would think. I too would like to see pictures of the accident if possible. I hope everyone gets back to normal soon man accidents suck. When I got in mine a couple years ago I didn't feel any pain while at the accident site, it wasn't until hours later in the evening that I felt like absolute crap. Think I had whiplash, was dizzy, had a migraine etc.

Glad to hear your wife & baby are okay... I just saw on the news in the last week about cell phones and driving too. They say a person in the ages of 16- 20 while drivin with a cell phone have a reaction time of a 70+ driving a car. And they say the older you are driving while talking on cell phone the reaction even gets worse And thats even with hands free cells. Kind of scary...

That's just terrible man. I'm really happy to hear everyone made it out alive and safe. It sounds like Rae is very lucky to have walked away with only a couple of days worth of pain.
That's great that Piper is 110% though. So many people don't know how to properly install a car seat.
