ok...so i'm at the point where i don't totally wanna keep piling money into my car. A car that cost me $10,000 to buy has had $13000 put into it and is only worth about $2000 now give or take a bit - DOH!

So anywho i've got about $6000 although spednign less would be nice, and i'm lookin for a used vehicle. It has to be an suv (possibly truck) no cars anymore!

Was first lookin at jeep cherokee's and GC's as they're fairly reliable but have yet to find a decent one for a decent price. So now i'm opening up to other ideas and have come to find that 4-runners look pretty hot, although i dunno what they look like inside.

How's the 4runner compare to the jeep, most jeeps in my range seem to have 200,000km on them give or take, and the 4 runers a lil more.

How do the two stack up...or is there something else you'd rather take thats in the pricerange and a fairly reliable vehicle that won't 100% kill me on gas heh?

i know my dad has a cherokee pushing almost 300,000k and he hasn't had to replace much...i've found the 4.0L to be fairly reliable...but i don't know much bout toyota's at all. I've heard they're solid vehicles.....and a lot of them seem to still have quite the price tag on them with high km's.

are they reliable? if so....what engines do come in them?

My neighbour loved his charokee drove it to his cottage and back every weekend it was 6 years old when it got stolen (apparently popular to steel and ship out of country)and had 220 000km on it with nothing bad to say about it.

if that be the case...then i do kinda like the looks of the 4runners better especially with a lil bit bigger tires like you said. If they're fairly reliable vehicles and don't cost hella $$$ to fix when they do break down i'll definitely have to look into them as well.

Question....i've never seen the inside of one...what are they like inside? Decent, kinda ugly? Any problems or things that i should look out for on the 4 runners?

thanks again people!

4-Runners are usually excellent vehicles, the 4 cylinder ones (22R or RE motor depending on year) are very reliable, and work well even after hundreds of thousands of km's on them. My parents have a 96 4-Runner with 210,000 km's on the 3.4L motor, still drvies like new. Check www.bc4x4.com in the Toyota section if you want a good resource, the Jeep section is great also.

4 runners are nice, but can run a pretty high price tag...all depends on what years you are looking at
