Call your Autoplan provider, not ICBC, explain your situation, and they might renew your insurance and you'll have to just sign everything once you get back.
Or you can go into a chain that operates in multiple provinces such as The Co-Operators and I am sure they can figure out how to help you.

If you live and work in Alberta I highly DON'T recommend carrying ICBC insurance. In fact, you basically don't have any insurance if you do that. Sure you might be able to avoid a ticket from the cops for driving without insurance, however in the event of an actual claim you are screwed. If you hurt somebody, they could sue you and garnish your wages for the a LONG time. You are taking a huge risk by living and working in Alberta and carrying ICBC insurance. If you have a claim inside of Alberta the first thing they will check is where you are paying income tax. So many people from BC and Sask. are abusing the system to avoid paying more for insurance that they have to.

I work in the insurance industry in Alberta. I can tell you that if you carry valid ICBC insurance and get pulled over by the cops you should not get a ticket for driving without insurance (and you are right it is a minimum $2800 fine!). However, in the event you actually have an accident and worse hurt somebody, you will almost certainly have no insurance. If you live and work in Alberta, buy Alberta insurance otherwise you are taking a huge risk.
