what if...

what if doors opend by themselves? have a mechanical way of moving the doors, wouldn't that look bad ***? just something I thought would make luxury vehicals all that much nicer

Its almost like those keychains that are for the bentley's, it senses your near and starts the car automatically, but the door thing, I think that would be a good idea, if it would not malfunction and open while doin a buck ten down the highway ....

Rich Inferra had an actuator that opened the driver's door of his Prelude in the early 90s.

One day it quit and they had to pry the door open.. fun..

only thing I know of is the sliding doors on mini vans will open/close on their own, I'm thinking of luxury cars that will do this for their own doors, that I haven't seen or know of but think it would look cool

Theyre called linear actuators. (im not talking about the door lock actuators although they are a type) Same kinda thing used in power seats. They can open doors, Slide amp racks, basically anything you can think of, if you're handy enough. But the down sides were already stated. IF(when) the motor fails, you are phuked.
