I always do everything *** backwards, amp/subs first and foremost, then whatever i can afford afterwards, hopefully something better than the factory HU. Then replace the factory speakers when they are on their last leg.
As far as modifications Im lucky to have enough money to keep changing the oil on a regular basis.

First subs and then an amp to run them off. I don't care what kind of stock audio equipment your car comes with. Bass is always lacking the most in any stock set up! Secondly, you cannot roll mafia style without tinting the windows to 0-5%, then comes rims for sure. Then after that stuff can be added in any order.

Deck - Subs&Amp - Speakers - Amp for Speakers
IMO you will notice a difference in each step up.. I've noticed generally by just changing the head unit the stock speakers sound better. Then adding the subs, well nuff said Then upgrading the speakers also makes it sound better IMO. Then adding an amp to the speakers just tops it off..

Probably Tint/Lower/Rims/Paint
Tint first because it's probably the cheapest, and tint is good! Next Lowering because you will want to see how it looks lowered before you buy rims. Rims next because you're not lowered and you can pick a set of rims according to how it looks now. Then Paint because it's the finishing touches, you've seem how it looks now.

subs amp speakers deck front stage amps.
i gotta go with paint first, u start with paint cus then everything goes from that and has to compliment that color, why limit your choice of body color cus red wouldnt always look decent with white rims, and say u get tint to match your existing body color then u gotta re tint (i saw a SWEET tint on a protege the other day, red car red fading tint looked totally cherry.
oh and dont forget a custom interior, nothin sets a car off like complimenting interior work

Assuming it is all available and I merely need to choose what order it is installed in: Front stage, interior custom work, trunk (subbox first then amp rack), and finally the actual deck connection.
Here's why.
I love fabrication work so the trunk is easily the most fun but it takes the longest so after it is done I like to hammer the rest together. This can lead to a rushed front end so I would rather start on the front end and get it done right first.
Also, I leave the actual install of the deck to the very end (even if I do the custom work right after the front stage) because I have seen WAY too many installs that went into full stop the moment it made sound This way it does not make a single note until the entire thing is done done done. went deck/sub & amp/rear speakers/amp for rear speakers. Want to change the front speakers but am unsure how to get to them, they are in the door but just not positive about whether I can just take the panel cover off or i have to take the door panel off. Anyone ever done this on a 97 saturn?
