I'm just curious....why don't ontario and quebec celebrate remembrance day by making it a Statutory holiday? I've talked to people from all over canada, and no one seems to have a solid answer.

Anyone know?

Why would anyone celebrate a day like this? If you mean why don't Ontario and Quebec have the day off, thats another story.

I listened to a discussion on the radio about this. Pretty much the general answer that they had was many veterans requested it not be a stat holiday because it would get forgotten. This way when people goto school/work most give 2 hours of silence to remember. If not most people would sleep away the day or just treat it as another day off and not know any better.

I was told that Quebec was against the war, when is was going on. They only went to war because the government said you had to sent troops. This answer came from the head office, located in Quebec.

It's not a national holiday.

If it were then schools would also be closed
