Ok here's the scoop. When I moved into my new place like 3 months ago, I noticed a faint noise coming from somehwere. I didn't really think anything of it as I am in a townhouse complex and I have a neighbor right next to me which I hear bass from all the time. After a couple late nights on the computer, curiosity got the best of me and I started to hunt this noise down.

Turns out its coming from my left computer speaker. I put my ear right next to it and can hear a radio station being played. Its not a station I recognise (Kamloops only has like 4 stations on both am and fm). It doesn't get louder when I turn up the volume and it there all the time.

Its starting to get annoying and don't now what to do. Are my speakers somehow picking up a radio freq? If so, how the hell do I make it stop?

turn the speakers off?

Hardwrkr 10-12-2004 11:27 PM

Using a wireless speaker? I would think if they are they would be using a frequency much much higher than radio broadcast but maybe somewhere it's getting picked up.

Are they Cambridge soundworks speakers?? I had the same problem with my old speakers.. I assume the shielding on the cables was not as good as it was supposed to be or for some reason it was sneaking in.. listen carefully.. if it's CBC international.. there might be a trend!

They are Labtec speakers. Not wireless. I think it might even be CBC! I don't want to just turn the speakers off, as I use them regularly and would be a pain. I dunno...I guess I am just gonna have ot put up with it.

Maybe they're haunted lol that's kind of wierd how if u turn it up n down it doesn't follow... Maybe if u have a spare set of speakers or borrow a friends and plug them in and see if they do the same thing, if not maybe the speakers really are picking up the frequency somehow and you'll either have to turn 'em off, get new speakers or put up with it...

Turn em off and if they still play that station then .......ummmmmm.........call the exorcist.

Have you already tried rerouting the wire and/or relocating the speaker to see if it goes away?

are you on cable or ADSL, because if you are on DSL, it could be your ISP. I know we had radio come in on our phone, loud and clear. I could talk to my girl and catch the hockey highlights, not a bad deal, I guess.

Try plugging them into a surge protector, or better yet another plug. Do you have any backup on your puter? Check out APC's battery backups... i'm running an APC 500ES. Use it to back up your most powerful stuff and leave the less powerful stuff on a decent surge. I use an APC Performance SurgeArrest. This will ensure cleaner power and give your equipment a chance to run properly.
