Other then mdf what's a good solid wood to use that would finish up real nice with a finish of sorts? But also be some what light weight and not big $$$?

I used oak faced flywood when building my home speakers, it looks nice. Have to do the banding on all the edges, though, to cover the end grain. Finished it up with Danish Oil.

russian plywood
it has 13 layers instead of 7 like ordinary plywood and its made of birch not pine, much harder wood [img]graemlins/thumb.gif[/img]

russian plywood comes in 5'by 5' and is sold aprox. 45 to 60$ I think home depot has it for around 55$
