Its a setup that gives you radio via satellite(of course hence the name) but what it allows you to do is anywhere within their broadcast footprint you can always recieve the same channels(ie if you lived in ontario and drove out to BC you would still have the same stations along the way). I havent seen the footprint range of xm or sirius but mostly southern parts of canada can recieve it with no problems.

The other benifits are that you are not locked into the stations around your area and what they play. I personally got both XM and Sirius because XM has better comedy and talk radio(political) but Sirius has far better sports package(NFL,NHL,etc)

JohnnyToronto, well you cant really get XM up here per say but if you know someone in the states you can have them subscribe for you and just pay the yearly fee(as its much easier than to give your usa friend money each month). Not sure on XM though if you can sub with a Cdn CC but I know you can with Sirius as they really dont care. But please be advised that doing so goes against the CRTC and the laws about decrypting signals from non Canadian authorized providers.

delphi XM units are registered in canada, but the pioneer, etc. XM units need to be registered in the USA. why it's done this way , i'm unsure,it's kinda stupid.

Well I just bought a Alpine CDA 9827 deck, most decks in general come XM ready, but you have to subscribe to get satelite radio right? (if its offered in the area) I know that some stations in Toronto (dunno about other areas cuz i've only seen it happen in Toronto so far) offer the onscreen display of what song they're playing n such depending on the deck, I was in a 03 Matrix not to long ago were you could press a button on their factory radio and it would display the song title and name from that station as well as the station you are listening to thats not XM correct? Thats just a feature that some stations offer?

Thats correct that is digital broadcasting which by law all communication services must be by a certain year(cant remember when though). digital broadcasting was made to show weather reports, commercial information, etc. XM does display whats playing as well though.

I had one of those display buttons on my factory 00 cavalier. 107.1 has digital tower, it showed song title etc at first now it just displays their phrase I think
