Lanzar opti1532D

I have a lanzar opti1532d sub and would like to design and build an enclosure for it. I have decided to go with a sealed enclosure. The only problem is, this is a 15" sub with an extremely large basket and magnet structure and I'm not quite sure what the volume of the actual driver is. The specs states the enclosure volume should be 1.5 ft^3. Does anyone have any experience with this particular sub? Any advice, whether it's pertinent to Lanzar or not, would be greatly appreciated.....

If you would like to see what this thing looks like, visit lanzar.com and search the opti1532d....

well you could alway invert the sub. and use the following outer dimensions

hight 15.25
width 12.5
depth 18.875

Angry

Pardon the gripe, but I would think if a manufacturer wanted to keep people interested in their products, they would do a better job than this page for support for last years products....

With the ability to store and serve up information on demand these days, a page like that leaves me wondering if I did buy something new from them, and I wanted to build a new box a year later I had better be able to find the manual. That's assuming the specs that come with it are more complete than the web page.....

OK, I'm finished now....

thanks hoful,
that configuration never did cross my mind, however, will inverting the driver still offer the same sonic characteristics as traditional mounting???

you shouldnt notice diffference if you mount the sub inverted. if you think about it it provides better cooling for the sub because the motor is not confined in the box
you can make the box any shape you want but those box dimensions i listed follow the "golden rule".

What is this "golden rule" that you mentioned ?? Also, can you tell me what "big three" and "yellow top" means as I am not in tune with those lingos???

The term "golden rule" refers to the optimal measurements for a box of a given volume. Making a box in a perfect cube shape, where all three dimensions are the same, is supposed to be bad for the creation of standing waves inside the box. IIRC, the ratios are 1:1.5:2.5, for example 12" X 18" X 30" for a 3.75cuft enclosure. Note that these are internal measurements, the thickness of the material must be allowed for when determining the cut lengths. Bottom line is make the 3 lengths different.....

Big 3 refers to upgrading the wiring under your hood to allow for better power supply to your amps. Specifically the battery to ground wire, and both leads off your alternator.

Yellow top is a common way to refer to a heavy duty dry cell battery. The name comes from the line of accessory batteries made by a company called Optima, which feature plastic cases with very colourful tops..... They are safe to install inside your vehicle's passenger compartment, since they have no liquid acid inside them to leak in case of an accident....

Thx bigred,
If I invert the driver, as mentioned before, do I also have to reverse the polarity ???

Not for a single driver....

If you are doing a sealed box anyway, they are fairly forgiving of small errors in box size...I believe the average displacement for a 15" is around .3 to .5cuft.

If safety is more important than being able to look at the basket, I would suggest putting the driver inside the box. Less chance of damaging it accidentally, which will **** you off.....
