Enclosure type for a van

Hey all

It's been quite a long time since I built an enclosure for a van or listened to one, been cars for the last 4-5 years. Van is a short 1993 Astro.

I'm looking at using either 3 Focal 33kx's or 4 Dynaudio MW190's powered off either a uDimension 20vs each or a Phass HP100 per pair. I already have the equipment and am just looking for the type of enclosure to start constructing. I have will have lots of low end up front as I'm putting a Dynaudio MW180 in each door.

I've been told that the Focals will work best in a ~1.6 cu ft sealed box, and I've only tried the Dyn's in AP and free air appilications due to the vented enclosure size of 3-4 cu ft. I want to waste as little testing time and wood as possible.

I'm looking for a smooth response, SQ like, not just a pounding setup. I listen to everything except country, Chopin to Slip knot to Neophyte to Skibereen.

Thanks, J

why 3 subs
i would go with 2 or 4 not 3
does the uDimension 20vs have the power for the subs / nice amp
the focals will work in a 1cft box to 1.75cft
the u-dimension i would use for the main speakers

The Focal's are probably 3 ohm coils.

Hey guys

I have 3 of the Focals laying around, that's why 3. It is dual 2 ohm VC's. I'm unsure of the Focals hunger for power, do they want lots? The 20vs is rated for 1x200W @ 4ohms. I am planning to use 2 of the 40xs's to power my front setup if I decide to use them. I'm unsure of what would go well with the Phass amps, as far as overall system gain matching.

I was running a trio of the Dynaudio's off 150W previously and they sounded great. From some research I did a few years ago they plotted out best in a vented 3.2 cu ft enclosure.

Does anyone know what the (can't think for the word) frequency is for this vehicle? (the longest wavelength or 1/4 wavelength) I don't have the van yet so I can't measure, gotta sell my car first

Thanks, John

every vehicle is different.

can't really come up with a majority number for a certain vehicle either cause not every vehicle has the same interior.
