Would a top firing, or rear firing enclosure make much of a difference?
Would a top firing, or rear firing enclosure make much of a difference?
Ok, so I need to make an enclosure for my 2 10" Dcons that are going into my 1990 BMW 325i. What Im going to be doing is removing the rear speakers from the parcel shelf, thus opening up 2 good sized holes into the trunk (I may also cut an additional hole or 2 to allow more airflow..). Thumpper already gave me a design for a rear facing, rear firing enclosure, but im just wondering if a rear facing, TOP firing enclosure would sound better, or would it not make much difference?
why not just do a bandpass box and have the ports come out where the factory speakers were... that way no loss of sound getting trapped by rear deck or seats... a 4th order design can still soung good be loud without being extremely big... especially for a pair of 10's make center frequency 50Hz with low peak but wide bandwidth... or even a small sealled box will work well in those trunks

3ft wide
15.5" high
and as deep as is needed, to meet the required cubit footage, witch for these subs, Ported: 1.25 cu.ft. @ 28-33hz opt (for 1 sub, for 2 would you just double the cu.ft?).
edit: also, since there will be 2 openings I can port through, would it be better to build 2 boxes and have each one port through the speaker holes?
