With the warmer weather, just had my first heat issue
Mind you, it ran quite some time before going into protect, but driving home (45 minute drive) and pretty much had tunes blasting the whole ride. About 10 minutes away from home, amp powering the subs went off. Was quite hot. Gain is about 3/4 turned up, any lower and there's just not much bass.
I know the amp can handle quite a bit, this was definitely an issue where it just plain got hot. Trying to figure out how to get air flow in the trunk now to help cool things. I just shut off the deck for 5 minutes, and everything was fine again.

My old RF turned off due to heat before a few times, so I added fans to keep it cool.
My new amp has built in fans, so if you decide to go with the fan option, let me know cause I've got my old ones kicking around.

i have a better solution. get a new amp or recognize the limitations of the one you have.
thats the classic scenario of someone trying to compensate for a lack of power by jacking up the gains to achieve a little bass.
with distortion harder to hear in lower frequencies you are probably gonna have issues with subs eventually by sending dirty power to them....which you are most likely doing if the gains are set that high and you are blasting the music for almost an hour straight.

maybe a higher output box to achieve same volume while taking some strain off the amp?

Ok, an update. My ears are playing tricks on me. I "thought" when I lowered the gain, I didn't have any bass, I was wrong. I just dropped the gain down to zero or one quarter turn, and I still have a ton of bass.
So obviously I had gain up higher than it should have been, now it is turned all the way down and still have plenty bass.
The issue isn't with the amp not being able to handle it, this amp can handle a lot more than the modern amps on the market these days. More of an id10t issue on my part.
Will have to see if it heats up much less now, since there's basically zero gain.
