Hello
Hello
Hey everyone I'm Sean from Mississauga.
I just purchased a RAV4 which I'm picking up on Monday and I'm looking to make some upgrades in the future.
My current vehicle until Monday has an aftermarket audio which I just took out.
It was my introduction to aftermarket audio. Pioneer peh-5000ub, MTX tc-30001 amp, Infinity reference speakers and Infinity reference 8inch subs. A pretty good system and now it's for sale.
In my RAV4 I want to go a step up. I'm thinking of going with some Focal mid range speakers and with either an Arc audio or JL audio amp.
I'm torn on whether to keep the stock head unit and use some sort of processor or throw in my Pioneer deck. I would prefer to keep the factory unit, but don't have any info on the SQ comparisons between aftermarket decks vs a factory deck with a processor.
Any ideas would help.

If the factory head unit is doing what you need it to do, then leave it alone. You will need a interface adaptor like the Audio Control LC6i to adapt the factory headunit to the aftermarket amplifiers. If the factory headunit offers MP3, Ipod, Bluetooth, Nav etc., leave it alone. If it does not, then I would consider changing it (unless of course it is cost prohibitive to change it). I can help you with the Focal or Morel for top notch speakers and some great amplifiers as well. I highly doubt that your RAV4 has a whole pile of factory eq'ing going on. As such you should not need a high end processor at all, just a good interface adaptor is all.
Thanks. I was thinking of the processor to "flatten" out the factory settings, before going to an amp so you can get a clean flat signal. He said that the RAV4's have a non linear signal that changes with volume and lot's of peaks and valleys of the frequencies. He suggested to clean that up before sending a signal to a good amp.
Not sure what it all means but the shop near me recommended something called a summing device if I want to go that way with keeping me factory head unit. He said it might be around $200. Not sure which unit or how it differs from a processor.

Rockforfosgate 3Sixty (High Level. 2way 31 band EQ with Sub EQ, more..)
JL Audio Clean sweep ( High level input)
JBL MS-8 ( High level input, auto tuning, eq, amplifier, more.. )
These 4 ^^^ processors are your only options. The bitone and 3sixty are laptop based. The JBL is new on the block and has more features then the rest. JL's cleansweep is very basic but it does everything you need.
If you are looking for something simple with no tweaking? JL Clean sweep would be my choice. If you want more tuning capabilities the JBL MS-8 would be my choice.
