subwoofer distortion and power issues...

hey guys, i just purchased two kicker l5 2ohm stable subwoofers in their custom boxes and i'm in the process of hooking one up to a california profile 4ohm (2ohm stable) amplifier... problem is, there is a lack of power and clarity on the sub yet when i turn the bass remote to full or unplug it from the amplifier there is an EXTREME increase in power and wayyyyy more distortion (not just because of increased volume but greater inaccuracy)... my grounding point is free of paint and straight to the frame via 4 ga. wiring... i have a feeling it's one of three things (or a combination with my luck)... rca cable, remote line, or my deck... neither of which have been messed with when i had my old system working perfectly... any ideas?

What impedence is the sub wired to? I can't really figure out the coil configuration based on your description. Perhaps the impedence is too low or high for the amplifier, or maybe you just need more power.
