I'd like to know what makes a subwoofer "SQ Worthy" in terms of statistics. I understand there's obviously a sound component to "Sound Quality" but if you could compare numbers across the board for subs, what would one look at.

Other than purchasing 5 or 6 different subs to compare subs and find a preference, what do you guys like to look for. Pure build of the sub I'm talking here.

 

Light cone, suspension not too rigid, excellent heat dissipation.

 

The best thing you can do to make your sub sound good is to concentrate on your midbass.

Any sub you pay more than $10 an inch for should be fine in the right box.

 

For sealed - high QTC, low f/s, high sensitivity, light cone, high xmax/linearity. RE XXX V4 & LMS-motors.

For ported it's pretty much the transient response (midbass as mentioned), and the raw sound of the driver.

Statistics? Like... one out of every 3 subs is a clone of another one? Or... maybe you mean specifications hehe.

Basically the specifications for what makes a great SQ sub are the specs manufacturers don't show, especially car branded companies. There are a few things to look for one being distortion plots... here is a good link to info on what to look for and how to read it. However, good luck finding this type of info from the manuf...

In any case,we can't hear all that well in the sub frequencies, spending a ton of cash for a great SQ subs yields little gains in total SQ IMO. Better off spending time creating a good box for whatever you've got.

 

i know what box my 10 incher goes in and it works perfect..lol...

 

Seen a few world champions running JBL GTO subs...you don't have to spend a fortune.
