Need some advice with Amp
Hey all... I have a recently purchased Mmats d300hc that seems to be a little screwy.
Basically, anything over half gain, half volume, it goes over to protect for a second at a time and comes back on, and off, and on, and so on and so on...
At frequencies near the enclosure tuning, i can turn it up much higher before it does this, and I figure thats cause my installation is most efficient around this frequency so the amp isnt forcing as much. Make sense??
Took the amp apart and seems like one of the mosfets are in 2 pieces and one leg ripped out of the board. Does this seem like a good cause or should I look for more? Should I take it to someone to have it looked over anyways or think I'd be good to just replace that mosfet and run the thing? I'm no electronic genius, but I AM a mechanic with a lot of soldering and electrical experience, I just dont know a hell of a lot about circuitry...
Anyways, thanks in advance for the advice.

If I were you and could source a replacement mosfet, I'd do that to start.
That way you haven't tied a bunch a of money into it in case that's not the culprit.
It is a very strange thing to have a mosfet torn apart- you might want to ensure you find the root cause of THAT damage, or it could happen again and take more out with it?
Good luck- let us know how it runs out!

It almost looks like it was hit with something... or like the amp was handled very roughly at some point... Its one of the mosfets near the power and ground attatchments, where there is a decent sized "hole" in the case. Maybe the amp was slid into a screwdriver or who knows. Doesn't look like the classic smoked mosfet anyways.
I have found the part, and will have it on Friday. I'll be sure to let u know.

Hmmm. Replaced the fet... went well... now its going into protect at a lower volume level. Wish I had another big amp around to see if it is my charging system starving it.
Multi meter never drops below 12.3 even at clip level, but it might be too slow to pick up such a fast drop in power. Other than that, I think its going to Mmats for repair, unless I can find a good deal on a new amp.
