I spent some time on the net looking a different box design programs ,as I'm getting to build my first box ,and now more confused than ever. esp. with WinISD which many seem to use. There always seems to be a box or component of the software I don't know how to complete and so never seem to realize any ultimate box design.

I'm leaning to making a sealed box ultimately if a ported one is too complex to build for a first box, but am somewhat interested in a slot ported box if I can get the dimensions right that will fit in one side of the trunk of my car "95 Impala SS" and a programme that will let me configure those measurements.

I did find a website with some ported box options, but something just didn't strike a cord right. With the parameters requiring a 1.8cuft box plus room for the sub at .23cuft, and 28hz tuning, best I could find was a predesigned 2cuft box tuned to 29hz on the following site

Problem is, if I take the outside measurements of this design, and roughly subtract the density of .75 for the mdf(it's not stated that thats the default thickness), and multiply out 30x17x14.5 and divide by 1728, roughly, I am just not getting 2 cubes but more like 4 cubes.

Is this plan not right, or am I just not right.

Is there a easier programme out there to use to create slot ported or even tube ported boxes?

It's you who is not right...

When you are calculating a ported box size for your driver you cannot include the area taken up by the port or the driver itself. This is why the box is so big compared to the 'usable' box space.

Thanks Mark. I'll be going sealed for sure then.

If I decide I can afford to winterize my car by buying another daily driver, then I'll go ported and go to a metric mini instead of a fullsize spare on my Impala SS.

I'll be getting to work then shortly on a build.
