I know there's a bunch of home stereo with car speaker threads out there, but none of them really answer the question I have. I was thinking of making some new towers with the subs I'm gonna be pulling out of my truck and don't have the cash to buy plate amps for them. How long do you think my reciever would last at 4 ohms when it's 8 ohm stable? I know quite a few people drive their amps below the recommended ohm load in their vehicles for daily, but how would a home stereo fare?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. So as long as the reciever stays cool and I don't clip the signal all should be good?

How much of an impedence rise would there be if I used sealed over ported? What about an ABC?

 

No not necassarily... and unless I looked at inside your amp and considered the speakers I would not recommend you run that far under rated load...

If you think its a solid amp, you can probably run 6ohm without really worrying about anything... 4ohm could be pushing it, but like I was pointing out it really depends on all of the factors in the equation...

You may not gain any power, you could acually loose clean power, and even if you do gain some power you risk blowning the outputs... either thermally or by exceeding thier current limits... and that could happen as soon as you try to turn it up...

 

I have a pair of 4" 4 ohm speakers I could wire in series with them so I didn't put the load too low. Is there any way I could add a passive crossover in it?
