HEy guys, I am so glad that a member on maxbimmer pointed me to this website. I am such a newb in car audio it isn't even funny!

So.. I want a SQ setup in my car but not willing to get rip by the stores by spending thousands. Can someone suggest me what to use for components, amps, subs, deck to build a SQ system? High end components would be awesome! (if I can find them decently priced, used)I have a 97 BMW M3 that has diamond hex components driven by a 400w sound stream amps that came w the car (are these worth using??). Anyone have experience with setup in 3 series, I need your help! Really appreciated, thank a lot!!

The stuff you have is nice and is appropriate to your M3

I mean it is good...don’t you like it? If it isn’t good enough for you yeah you can always spend more but the question I am shooting back at you is "How is it inadequate?"

M-fly thats are broad as asking what tires and rims your should buy.

Here's my advice

1: Look in your phone book or on-line and find a dealer that is an IASCA/USAC/MECA or SLAP member. These are SQ comp circuits. These shops tend to have more SQ type gear available. Also USCA used to list the top 10 gear used at thier world finals on thier site.

2: Find out when a SQ show will be in your area (sanctioning boadies above) as listen to as many cars as you can, and ask what they use and where they got it.

3: THE most important thing is take some of your own music and listen to as much stuff as you can.

4: Stay away from marketing BS.. just because it's chrome, expensive, top of the line, ect ect doesn't mean that you will like what you hear.

5: Take your time and pick the best stuff for you. When you have to keep replacing stuff because it didn't give you it's expected performance costs you alot more than if you spent time doing the above

Musical taste is a very personal thing. What one guy likes the other will hate. I've built many SQ systems over the years and no one system is the same as the others.

Just run a sub, a 12 inch ported and a small eq. Get your feet wet in competing first than decide on equipment. It the better way to go. Then you can see what other people are using etc. Listen to the parts in cars etc. You can buy an eq for $200.00 and a sub and box for $300.00ish...

awesome guys! thanks for the all great tips!
I am running off a sony deck and the sound isn't exactly good (i would say worse than my stock lexus sound). Its very possible that the installation was done poorly.(?)

I don't have subs yet because I was quoted thousands of $$ on subs and amps. Not sure where to start all together so I didn't jump on it. I would like to DIY if possible but that's prob beyond me...

I know I have a whole **** load of reading to do in order to get a good general understanding. Since I really don't have a clue what you guys are talking about. Any good sites that you may have come across that will get me up and running?

Hey Impala builder, thanks!! that was exactly why I didn't buy the setup from the shop. Eventho they were brand names, not too sure if they would work well in my car. Every vehicle prob have different sound dynamics?

I just gotta say Im ever so glad to join this forum!!!Oh, lastly, will a nice SQ system have to cost me an arm and a leg?

they are so cute when they are newbies!

Then they grow up to be big old cranky know-it-alls
