Hey guys, I'm building a box for my cousins single Kicker 10" L5. He wanted some boom out of it for rap and a smooth response for rock so I went with a 3cu ft box tuned to 28Hz. I've never designed a box for a hatch though, should I point the sub and port upwards firing at the rear window or towards the back? He's not gonna compete just wants good sound and we don't have the time or money to test different boxes. Just need some advice on how to face the sub and port, thanks alot.

Although results may vary, I have had the best results firing the sub and/or port towards the hatch.

Just curious, 3cu.ft. for a 10L5?

Thanks Hardwrkr, yeah, 3 cu ft. That's the size I got for the best results on Bassbox and WinISD. It seems really big though so I dunno.

Ya might want to make it a bit smaller, maybe 2 cubes 2.5 at most before port displacement. Try facing the sub up and port(s) firing back. hmmm... that still seems kinda big for a S10L5 even 1.5 cubes ported works pretty well

IMO 3 cubes is too big for that sub.. personally i'd do between 1.5-2

I'd say around 1.5-2 cubes for that thing.
From what we did in my car, having the port firing the hatch was a bit louder than firing towards the back. Although for daily driving you probably wouldn't notice much of a difference.
