Our Alpine IVAD300 was stolen out of the board during store hours at work today. They did not get the processor so that would be the thing to watch for if anyone comes in looking to purchase it.

I do have the serial numbers and can confirm them if anyone comes across anything suspicious.

We just had our security cameras installed 2 days previous and they are being reviewed by head office.

Talk about *****

I have let our local competitor shop know about the theft in the hopes that the thieves will try and purchase the processor from there.

Dave (Defro) could you keep an eye out in K-Town since a gut feeling tells me it might head out your way. Don't have anything to base that gut feeling from but you know it's always tough to explain.

Thanks in advance. contact me here, by e-mail or call me at the store 250-562-5600 Joe @ Visions Electronics #12

Working in a big store on a busy day it is amazing to see the things that went on. I caught quite a few people trying to steal things when I worked for the big box guys (even got to run one down for that matter). Most salespeople are only concerned with the guy infront of them and not the person who is with them or any other person in the area. A staff meeting is indeed needed and proper training of how to talk to a customer while watching your area at the same time is crucial. There is a reason as to why the RCMP officer is always moving when they are talking to you, they don't want anyone else coming around from behind them and they always keep everything in front of them in view while they are talking to you. The same thing should be done on a salesfloor by the salesperson, this is his area and he / she should be aware of all that happens in it.

That said though, it sucks to hear of this Joe, chances are that it is not going to make it to my neck of the woods but I'll watch none the less. The last time I had something stolen here I had a team come in and they were always trying to move behind me and they all wore large coats. It took them less than 3 seconds to grab an amplifier and conceal it as much as I was prepared for and watching them. One occupied you, one was in sight, the other was moving all the time. They then left the store and within 15 seconds I realized what they had stolen, they were already out of the parking lot as they had a driver waiting outside. Got a vehicle description and knew what they looked like, thieves are stupid and they got away with it they thought so I knew they would do it again.

I called the competition, made them aware of these 3 people and 5 minutes later a phone call came in that they were in the store. The salesperson on the phone recognized them as well as they had already been in their store twice that moring and the salesperson assumed that they were back to buy the tv they were interested in, all the while the other people were stealing more stuff. Once I and the RCMP arrived all 3 were arrested and subsequently charged. I got my amp back and the competition got back 7 cd players, 2 dvd players, 4 amplifiers, 6 sets of speakers and other items from the trunk of the car. It seems that even though all this was returned, the trunk still held more goodies from other local retailers that had no idea they had items stolen. All because I was prepared for a circumstance like this. I guess A&B Sound did infact teach me something after all.

No offense to the employees, but it really sounds like an inside job to me.

Everyone was accounted for and no staff member removed the unit. If any staff was involved with the theft then that is unknown at this time.

A staff meeting was held imediately after discovering the theft although last Saturday floor awareness and the higher likelihood of theft was discussed (how ironic )

It has been really busy and the area where the screen was taken was kind of secluded and the back side of the A/V board can not be seen from the general sales floor (ie...bad thing waiting to happen). We have remedied that by turning the board sideways. The only thing that can not be seen are the radar detectors on the board but they are behind a locked lexan door.

As far as I know head office is still reviewing the video and hopefully something will come of it.

Unfortunately we usually have a 5:1 customer-to-salesperson ratio most days and it is hard to maintain surveilance on each customer. The people that look most likely to steal product are usually the least likely to actually do it IMO.

BTW Thanks Rob & Dave. A case of Mountain Crest for the first man to find it.
<I might even feel sorry for the poor bastard that gets between Dave and the opportunity for a free case of Mountain Crest>

As far as it going missing in broad daylight... with the knowledge you have of how Alpines mount to the sleeve how long do you think it would take a motivated person to pull it out of a board? Under 10 seconds most likely since they didn't get the processor. And with the stupid baggy jeans that hang below most kids ***, hiding a HU would not be too difficult. It's the opportunity they had to take it thats left us with "egg on our face".

All board models have now been back strapped inside the boards and security tags have been attached to all the chassis' to try and inhibit future attempts. Too bad it took a $2000 msrp theft to make us aware.

A guy I knew here in London had a buddy like that, would get the shipment in then just mark it as not received or something then load them in the truck...

Security tag's usualy don't work on metal products. If you hook an alarm up to the remote leads of ALL the decks, it will sound the minute any of them lose power. Works like a charm and only costs a cheap alarm and a wack of relays.
