all big talk...until you look a man in the face after you've just ended his life, you don't know what you're talking about!!! A stereo is hardly worth killing someone over, there are much more important things to kill for. Anyway, sorry about that, brought back some memories I had suppressed. Listen, I keep saying this over and over...go to the junk yard or local stereo shop or ebay and buy a cheap oem deck, gut it and make a fake face plate. When you leave the car put it in place...it has worked for me for 23 years..and I 've always had sports cars with rims and big stereos.

sure man...I just gotta get a chance to take a few pics...very simple and very effective. Just get an oem deck...really doesn't have to be even the same as your original, but if you can get one, that's the best option. Then you just remove the face plate by unscrewing it ,prying it off etc... and then use crazy glue to put all the buttons etc...back on the face. Depending on your decks layout, you can use an old cd to glue to the back of the face or use velcro to attach the face to your deck when you leave the car. Remember, most crooks are looking for an easy grab, so when they are scanning, it's a quick peek inside the car. If they see what looks to be an oem...they just move on...especially when it's dark outside, it's nearly impossible to tell it's a fake. Ofcourse, you can't have all your speakers hanging out and your subs in plain sight either....and don't forget to slow the volume as you're getting closer to your destination.

If you want to put a deterrent in, I like the Atomic 3000 strobe light by Martin (www.martin.dk). 3000 W of constant on blinding lightor strobing light. I've used these when DJing and you can easily blind a whole high school gym, let alone a guy opening your trunk at 2 am.

yeah, I had it kicking around from my 94 stang...it was dead anyway so I didn't feel bad gutting it. The thing with stock stuff is they all look very similar in that they're boring and very colourless...so unless you're really paying attention, it looks stock. The best example I can give is when my brother got in the car and tried to put a cd in the slot. He looks at me all puzzled and says,"the radio just broke!", to which I respond,"it's a dummy face." He is still puzzled, so I remove it, and he's says,"I hope you have a warranty" I laughed and put the real face on, and he's like what the hell...that's cool! I figured if it can fool someone up close in the day, should be good for a thief in the night.

I prefer to tig weld my deck to the chassis, then to the car.
And just in case they bring a plasma cutter or the like, I just leave a spirng loaded switch blade right behind the deck, usually resulting in loss of an eye.
