Shop in Vancouver to solve alternator whine?
#1
Well I currently don't have alternator whine, becuase the gain on my Kicker amp (35Wx4 underated) is turned nearly all the way down. However, the amp's output to the front speakers is much less than the head unit driving the rear speakers. I turn the balance to 7 out of 9 to the front). I do run a sub which runs from the 4 channel amp. Part of it is a design of the car, its a 94 celica where the front speakers are near your feet, while the rear speakers are mounted in the side and thus are closer to your ears than the fronts. If I even turn the gain to 8 o'clock position (using 6 o'clock position as the minimum setting) I get alternator whine. After having this setup for a year I'm frustrated becuase I want this thing LOUD! I can't go to the shp where it was installed because I moved from the northeast. I have read a few thinngs about cuase of alternator whine, but I'de like someone else to figure this out, and I'd like to go to a shop int eh 604 area that has good ideas on solving this problem.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but generally i'd check how/where your rca's run in comparison to your power wires. If your amp is in the back, the RCA's from your deck, should run down one side of hte vehicle and your power wire (from your battery) down the other side of the vehicle. Or at least as far away as possible. If these wires do have to cross, they should be perpendicular (90 degrees).
When i first installed my stereo, no one told me not to run these together...so like why do twice the work when i can put em all together, did that and after like 3 hours work of wiring n tearing the car apart, i got this annoying whine at low volume from the speakers. arg....i eventually rewired it all and it was fine.
Other problems i had we're not having the rca's plugged completely into the their partners at the headunit...which created some noise n pain for me.
Another thing you can check (in which i believe effects this is your grounds....least i think that can effect this...hmm someone else correct me if i'm wrong on that one)
