added subs now all i get is thumping sound and major headaches
hey all have a headache of a problem. running pioneer deh p5800mp with front and rear speakers worked fine for 2 yrs, just added amps to my rears and added subs.i decided to only use the rca outs as there is front ,rear and sub outs on the deck and eliminate the normal speaker wire outputs now i have no sound at all except for the subs that are just making a continuous thump thump thump sound. i read it could be bad ground so i hooked the neg and pos straight to the battery to elimenate any bad wiring but still have the same problem.and for the amp to my rear speakers there isnt any noise at all (could there be a setting to turn the rca cables on? ) i clicked thru all the setting but couldnt find any. all help is greatly appreciated,im also at work with the dash ripped apart so im also in a pinch lol
thanks in advance
also one thing i forgot to mention i had the deck and amps on the work bench
and power it with a 12v adapter to one speaker and it worked fine

U can test RCA voltage output with a DVOM. Set to AC volts and put one lead to the centre of RCA and other lead to ground of same RCA. Turn up volume and u should get a fluctuating reading. This will at least tell u if your pre outs are working.
Do the amps light up like they're on? Try jumping a wire from the + terminal on the non working amps to the RCA and see if the amp comes on/makes sound. Some decks don't put out enough current through the remote wire to turn on multiple amps. U may need to run a relay.
Is wire size sufficient for other amps as well? You're not trying to power/ground amps off 12g wire or something are u? I've seen it before.
Make sure to use (at least) the same size ground as power. Ground connection is just as important as power. You're grounding points are sanded and secured tightly?

thanks for the info Mr.DatSubishi
im gonna try testing the outputs like you suggest, everything lights up and has seperate feed and grounds just to eliminate weak power source , im really thinking it might be a setting on the head unit but i couldnt find any other than to turn the subs on and off. at least testing it with a meter ill be able to find out if there is output voltage comin out like you say.im using 2 RF Punch 40`s and 1 RF Punch 201s. thinking i might try and sell these and get a multi channel amp to cut down on space and wiring lol.
thanks again for the info ,will post how i make out with the testing

I don't know much about the pioneers, but some menu options are actually accessed with the unit off. I had one where someone asked me to set the time on a previously installed unit and I actually had to call a buddy with some pioneer HU experience. Felt kinda like an idiot. Then I thought. Who's the idiot? Me or pioneer?
So in short. Try to acces menu functions with the unit off. I don't remember whether it's key on or off, but try both.

i tried the functions with the unit off and ign 0n and it had more options but only for rear rca out mixed with sub out , i hooked up my second amp to rear rca and tried the new setting and it just turns my 6x9s into subs lmao ,im gonna have to look into it more when i have the time.i just hooked it back up with the speaker wires and left out the rca for now and got my subs and sub amp working so im happy . needs my tunes haha.
its just funny how all 3 rca outs worked fine when i hooked it all up on the bench without changing any settings at all.
thanks for all the info, much appreciated
