I used to do alot of mixing and large sound systems for live acts, and you wouldn't belive the legal garbage just to audio record the show.
The way around this. Use a commecially avaiable disk. Some are using the focal disk, some the shefield labs disks

I really think that a Canadian SPL league would be amazing. I know that to match DB Drag in refinement or Iasca would be difficult but lets say we get something together, make some rules up which wouldn't be all that tough, the hardest part would be to have everyone agree on them.
If there are say 4 people who chair the league, they all go into msn chat and decide on things like # of amps, batteries, woofers (size, square inches) and typical mods the rules will be basically outlined there.
There are alwasy exceptions and problems but they can be modded as it goes along.
Now if you get people like Peter and Chris B running shows, you don't need training really. As long as they put you in the right class, that's all that is really needed to start out. I realize that there is a lot more than that to running something like DB Drag, but if we just get something started, I bet it would work out.
If this Canadian SPL league is formed we could just have it as non profit. Peter could have a CSPL show for free, everyone gives him the typical 20 dollar entry fee and that would hopefully cover the useage of his shop, time and trophies or whatever the prize is.
It will all start out pretty low key and simple and can just develop as it does.
I think this can work and be done very cheap.
Thanks,
Craig G

Yuli.
Yes, some of the big costs are because of SQ. One other problem still exists..
There are too many organizations already present.
I am not even going to into the pros and cons, as we have already read enough about this topic.
Plus I am not saying it will happen but how many people are going to drive from BC or PEI to a Finals or big show in Ontario. I know I couldnt afford the time off to drive to BC for a show.
The organization might as well be called O.A.S.A
(ONTARIO AUTO SOUND ASSOCIATION).
I think its best we stick with what we have, and make it more exciting. Just my .02 cents

We could have finals rotating or have it in the middle of the country.
I know there are a lot of orgaizations as it is, but in my town we have 1-2 shows a year at the shop and none of them are sanctioned. It wouldn't be too tough to change that up if the sanctioning wasn't costly.
I am for this league, just my opinion though.

the only way to get people to show up is to advertise and in canada there are not enough people showing up and there is too big of an area for there to be a large scale and relatively cheap marketing campaign. Audiothunder advertised and was very successful but they could afford to do so because of revenue brought in by other portions of the show via spectators and refreshment sales and booths and stuff. Bottom line is the only way to make a successful league is to have people making money off it and the only way to make money is to have people and the only way to get people is to advertise which costs money that you have to get from somewhere and 16 competitors at a show isn't enough to do that...in my opinion we kinda have to hold the course and maybe start getting the names of retailers in southern ontario and when you hold a show fax them a flyer to put up...thats the only cost effective way to advertise and get a good turnout and as soon as the turnout starts coming up then you will be able to do things to make it better but you gotta start by having people actually come to the show

I tried the whole posting flyers for our buck and doe competition last april... was a flop. not one local person came out. we posted over 200 flyers, at local high schools, bars, every shop we could find, the army base 5 minutes from town, every where.
no one local
