Exclamation Chirpin' about alarms-----please add your input!!

We are having an issue with neighbors. I have asked many people including the local police if we are in the right or wrong about the situation. To date, everyone we've asked sided with us, and now I need your guys' input.

Both my girlfriend and I leave for work @ around 7 am weekdays, and we both un-arm our vehicles around that time(2 chirps each vehicle). She usually leaves a few minutes before 7, and I a few minutes after. one of our neighbors had written a very rude letter threatening to "call our landlords" if we didn't stop unarming our cars in the morning, because he works shiftwork, and it causes him to lose sleep. The letter was placed on our door on christmas eve. I may attach a copy of it to this thread. The local bylaw says that we can make noise from 7am to 11pm, and the local rcmp say that an alarm chirp is an acceptable noise at anytime. I go to work today, and find out that this neighbor has called and complained to my work's head office in toronto(their # is on the side of my van). the alarm on my van CANNOT be put in silent mode, as it's a crappy brand. My other alarms are compustar and can be silently armed, but we now feel that someone could have confronted us in a nicer way, and we are not willing to set it on silent now. Not to mention our noise is within the city's allotments. There has been other issues too that we've been called on b-law for, such as our yard lights being on 24 hrs a day. our sprinkler being on over night once, and most recently, a bylaw officer had contacted me about me being a possible "curber" because I have a car for sale right now.

What is your take on this??

Are we within our rights as tenants??

what can we legally do to stop the harrasment??

We will be going back to our local police tomorrow, as a name was given when they complained to my work. but Last time we went to them, they said there was nothing anyone can do.

pleas help me!

Does your siren have a small 18-20 guage wire loop on it , where the red/black leads come out of the siren? if so, and it hasn't been cut, cut it and your arm & disarm chirps will be quieter, as for your neighbours Will, tell them to sleep with ear plugs I've been installing for 20 years now and have been down this road many times, you'll always have some individuals who love to whine and bitch about anything they can and try to make an issue with bylaw etc etc etc. You are not in the wrong ! if your alarm was falsing and going off every few hours then the neighbours have a legit complaint, but for arm and disarm chirps ....... no way .......... Legally there isn't too much you can do but let the police tell the neighbor or re educate him/her on the noise bylaw.

I can make a delay so it won't chirp at all, but now that I'm pissed off, I actually would like my chirps louder....at the same time, I don't want to **** anyone off purposly, I would just like to live my life, and my neighbor to mind their own business...it's not like I party everynight, or have a grow op. I am just trying to live.

And that's exactly what you should do.

Don't let this BS bother you...well try not to.

Sounds like you live next to a d!ck neighbor(s) and there's really nothing you can do about it.(except move)

You could come up with with **** to **** him off more but that's not really going to get you anywhere....but it would prolly be funny......I would find it hard not to disarm my car several times in a morning.

though,The note on the door christmas eve was difinitely a d!ck move.

The guy is a dick, you're in the right.
Buy the mf a set of earplugs and say merry xmas, or use the "phone a friend" when he goes out

Learn to live with the harassment or move. You will not be able to alter their behaviour - all you can do is alter yours. Totally unfair, but the way it is.

I'd buy an air horn and set it off randomly at night.

Dollarama sells them for $2
