You just described almost every type of competition. Difference is these guys are normally losing because they are tuned too low or have a safe amount of power for their sub woofers and not competition power. Two of the main things you need to win at this . The $50 fee is just for the final the regular runs throughout the year prob will be $5-$10 I think.

Clay's Jimbro is a good example of the kind of vehicle that would probably turn most people away from the event. Unless people set aside thousands of dollars to build for this class (or to beef up an existing bass racer), I can't see many people (if any) in the area shelling out cash to go up against a vehicle that can bass race high 50s (low freq. too!) and burp over a 60.

I know the whole idea behind this is unifying everyone into a single class, but perhaps if you considered splitting it into two classes, you may get more of a response...

For example, you could put everyone from dbdrag street classes (a,b,c) into one group, and assign all other dbdrag classes into the other. That would level the playing field a great deal, and wouldn't detract from your original idea (using frequency as a determinant of score), which I think is awesome.

not really. most compititions, the doors and windows are closed. when you start playing with loud, low frequencies with the doors open, that is when all hell breaks loose with your equipment. you have now taken that controlled environment of a sealed cockpit and introduced an uncontrolled environment to which peaks and impedances change drastically. a regular competitor will know how to limit abuse and damage, but the average joe off the street that is smelling that $1000 prize is going to end up with the smell of burned out coils or heat-sinks instead.

I've seen it in every compitition, where the new guy always wants that added db, and will take their system out of the safety zone to get it, where as a weathered competitor already knows what their system is capable of, without doing damage.

eventhough I know my system quite well, I doubt that I will be taking it through the paces of this event, as the $1000 prize would not even cover the replacement of my subs, and even then would not gaurantee me a win. I feel much the same about death matches. a good time to host this event would be at western finals, where if someone blows stuff they could get new re-cones or new boards replaced before world finals, and not be out of the running mid-season, waiting for things to be shipped.

Sorry that this is so long, and I realize that this is just my opinion, but this is where I stand at this time....

I understand this competition isn't for everyone.

Normal dB Drag walls certainly don't have that huge of an advantage over low tuned daily drivers. Especially if they have hatch type vehicles and tuned low. I am sure people who have walls and tried this can come on here and help explain that to you.

I have a low tuned wall which hits 157.7dB but when I do this method of testing I only did 142.7 with track 2 of the dB Drag CD 2:43 in. The note for the run was 33 hz with doors open giving a score of 189.7 and I have seen a non walled CRX with a single 12 tuned at 30 hz capable of doing the run at 145 dB @ 36 hz for a score of 189. Time will tell if the idea is fair across the board for everyone.

I am sure those who give it a try will know the risk, you don't give enough credit to competitors.

This is just a fun side event that can make it fun for spectators. I am sure I will enjoy giving money back to competitors like it used to be many years ago.
