this sport has stepped up since the past few years and is gaining more SQ and both SPL drivers to partake in events heck we have 3+ girl competitors just this year which is slick.

For tim i would rather go to a show that has bigger trophies with a larger turn out with cars Than to have a bunch of singles spaced out but it was a great idea.
Western finals would be great if it stayed in central BC so all the surounding cities can participate...

maybe next year we should try to have a unified DBDRAG/Iasca B.C. finals here in Vancouver so we can draw out more islanders with huge trophies like the old days .

all this planning is up in the air right now
and will be planned next season when the weather gets sunny. For us at Ralphs we are going to hold events in import car shows arenas next year

I do like the idea of 2 or more shops comming together to hold events but usually dont hold up for 2 long.....as long as its on city ground (park) it will be an awesome show for the public

See you all at the Okanagan Thunder

IMO......... SQ competition is a thing in the pass! Or soon be..... We need to jump start with some real good shows.....

In the very beginning..... Most of the shows that was held by radio stations (CFOX/CFMI) was also covered by the media (in the evening news)! just think of the exposure they got! They also had 1st,2nd & 3rd place prize moneys and many give aways.. there were well over 100 cars for the CFOX show.... held at the Brentwood Mall parking lot in the mid 80s..... It was all about good sound and clean installs! also SPL is included, But done with music and not one note burps which is used today..... Sound quality judging is done by real sound engineers from the radio station.

A few suggestions:

1/ Have good sounding SQ demo cars...2-3+, to demostrate what a good soundstage is all about. I'm not talking about the lame & lifeless stuff. It must be dynamic and lively sounding!

2/advertise on radio......

3/Offer prize money for the best sounding car in town! ($1000 for 1st,$500 for 2nd,$250 for 3rd.)
This one always works...... Its just cost more to do for sure..... But if you could find a sponser for the show it would help too.

4/ Have special sale in the store, or a coupon for something to bring back the customer. This would help some of the cost for running the show.

5/Display customer's cars....... like what Mobile Audio did way back..... quite impressive.

Hope this help........

^ lol Hey Joe comes to a show once a year or so He even brings out his car every 5 years or so

Having just attended the USACi western finals in Kelowna, it was intersting to see what was good about a big show like that and what could have been better. There were 35ish SQ cars there I believe and a few demo cars althoug not too many. What I would have liked to have seen were more SQ-oriented demo cars and not just flashy boom demo cars. Virtually every manf. has one of those. Nice to look at the installs of swoopy painted fiberglass, neon and video screens but I could care less to hear what they sound like. Somewhat similar to that, the RPM Magnum is a sweet ride to look at but I don't much care to listen to it either. Regardless, demo cars are always great eye catches. There were some really nice customer cars at the Kelowna show too although I didn't listen to any of them. I dunno if the owners were willing to give a listen but I also didn't ask. I remember at the Boyz Audio show in 2003 they had some nice customer cars on display and the Karz Altima there to listen too which was nice.

I'm just thinking back to the old day of the shows I went to in the early 90's and what made them exciting to go to. One was the number of competitors cars to look at. The variety is what makes it so interesting. Variety in gear used and how it's installed. Fancy car audio was also still a relatively new thing back then too so not to many knew about it and it was more popular then but now 15-20 years later, people aren't so jazzed about it. BUT perhaps because the SPL thing has flourished and overgrown SQ for the past 5+ years, perhaps now SQ can make a comeback and by hyping through the media, etc. what a good sounding car can look and sound like might be interesting now to people. The old days also had more people showing off their cars by having them open and usually the system playing, although not cranked up. Just my observations.

I've seen payouts from the entry fees.
Lets just say class A had 10 entries @ $ 50 a car there would be $ 500 to divide up between 1st , 2nd and 3rd
Say $ 300 1st
$ 150 2nd
$ 50 3rd

Would you do the same? ...if it was the other way around? (I host the show and you compete?)

</font>
Would I do the same ???

Lets take a look at a few things Joe..................this year alone, I have put on 4 shows and a 5th is coming..............since the spring of 2001 I have not had a vehicle to compete with otherwise I would have competed the whole time.....................from 1991 to 2000 I competed in over 170 shows including regionals and finals.............................so would I come out and compete if I had a car that was even half done ? Hell yeah...................if my Regal made sound I would compete right now.............

Every year you had your shop, you would talk about doing a show and you never did one.....................every year you would say you were going to bring your car out and compete but you ALWAYS had some excuse............let me tell you a little secret that almost everyone else knows............no car will ever be perfect so take what you have a show it

The excuses are tired and played out...........
